The controversial right-wing media outlet has been caught out (yet again) with their, and let’s be generous, lax reporting.
On July 31st, 2025, political lightweight reporters Emily Carver (Former Head of Media at the discredited Tutfon Street thinktank, IEA) & Tom Harwood ran a piece titled:
Army veterans ‘evicted’ from homes
However, it’s misleading at best.
Remember our adage, If you are angry by seeing something on social media or legacy media, who benefits – In this case, it’s Reform Ltd (Yes, they’re still a limited company).
Why & how? It’s quite simple, evicting former servicemen is quite an emotive issue, anti-patriotic even.
Except, when you scratch the surface, which GBNews is very unlikely to do for a 4min segment, there’s more to it than that.
The Housing provider clarified the situation:
“Qualitas Housing is aware of recent claims suggesting that armed forces veterans are being evicted from Constellation House to accommodate asylum seekers.
“These claims are entirely false. The difficult decision to issue Section 21 notices followed the local authority’s refusal to reinstate Housing Benefit for the tenants.
“We are actively supporting the tenants in appealing this decision and are working closely with both them and the council to ensure that no individual is left without suitable accommodation.”
So, to break this down.
- They aren’t ‘evicting’ veterans in exchange for asylum seekers
- Section 21 is a no-fault eviction notice brought in by The Conservatives under Thatcher in the Housing Act 1988.
- The Veterans are being supported the Housing firm
- The local authority, which withdrew Housing benefit, is a Labour minority Council, with pressure applied because local govt has had its budgets cut
